When in doubt of a website having legitimate information, looking at the domain name can be a big indicator, usually a, .gov, .org, or .edu means that the website is trusted whilst a .com or other domains may increase the probability of potential misinformation. You’re likely wondering to yourself at this point, but what if it’s a social media post? Or an advertisement, should I click on it? In the case of a post on social media, checking the account that uploads it can be a great factor, at times giving further hints by showing a blue tick for verification or a symbol that shows suspected AI usage. On the other hand, clicking on advertisements that look suspicious can pose the risk to phishing (where cybercriminals trick you to giving them information by disguising fradulant links into trusted sources), leaving the exact website you’re on a possible clue on whether it might be AI-inflused.
